Sunday, November 16, 2014, 3:30 – 4:30 PM in the Sanctuary
Wind & Ivory Trumpet/piano duo will be performing a varied program of short pieces from the trumpet repertoire that will be enjoyed by all ages. Their wide range of music includes pieces by Arutunian, Mozart (Leopold, Amadeus' Father) Bernstien, Clarke and Bruebeck. This concert is free to the public and families are encouraged to attend. They perform all their concerts without leaving the stage and engage verbally with the
audience so as not to create a 'stuffy' formal atmosphere.
Wind & Ivory is a dynamic trumpet and piano duo that appeals to all ages through their passion for music and ability to relate it to others. Performing together since 1986, the married duo enjoys sharing their interpretations with varied audiences.
Edgar E. Johnson, III, trumpet and Katrinka Blystone Johnson, piano, began performing together when the Baytown Symphony asked Ed, who was then principal trumpet, to perform at a fund raiser for the orchestra in 1986. They enjoyed themselves so much that they decided to begin pursuing performing as a duo and, as a result, formed Wind & Ivory. They have performed a wide range of musical repertoire for a variety of audiences. Two years after they began performing together, they were invited to participate in the Maurice Andre trumpet competition in Paris, France. Since 1988, they have treated audiences to a large portion of the trumpet repertoire which has been well received.
