The Tidings: May - June 2013

A publication of the Faith Community of Trinity Episcopal Church, The Woodlands, TX. Volume IX, Number 3, May - June 2013

Dear Trinitarians,

As we enter into the last few weeks of spring and enter into the summer months, I want to thank you all for your commitment and devotion to the mission and ministries of this faithful parish. This has been a full and successful “program year”, but this is not the end of our ministries…many are just gearing up. We will have Vacation Bible School, Mission Trips, Outreach opportunities, and a variety of fellowship opportunities.

Yes, we have done good work this year and the summer will not be a respite from our call to worship, serve, and share our faith. The summer takes on a different tone, but it is full of opportunities to practice the faith we proclaim. Ministries shift into a different gear, but they do not stop. With school out we know that it is also vacation time, and I pray it is a time you get a little R & R away from the regular demands of work and school. The word vacation refers to an opportunity to vacate one place for another. It means to be absent for a while. That can sometimes translate into vacating your Sunday worship.

I pray we do not see these months as a vacation from the practice of our faith. As I mentioned above, the Church (that’s us) does not take a vacation from the faith and the expectations God has for us. We are Christian all year round and should live our faith all year round.

Every Sunday is a “Little Easter” and we are expected to gather on that day and offer our worship to God, giving thanks for the salvation we have received, and to be present for our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Remember that we have four services on Sunday and two services on Wednesday. These are offered to meet the needs of our members, and I pray you take advantage of at least one of them every week.

Know that I will be praying for you all as you travel, as you rest and get some “play-time”. Please remember to pray for others and their time away.

When you are in town remember that your home parish needs you and do not vacate worship. When you are out of town, worship in another parish (and bring me their bulletin – I love seeing what other parishes are doing).

Pray for the summer ministries of Trinity. The Church never takes a vacation.

Peace, Father Gerry+
